Why was the stop sign at Aspen/Hickory taken down and how do we put it back up?

Dear Resident:

As a follow up to the open meeting of the Master Association Board last night, we are aware that the stop sign on the corner of Aspen Drive and Hickory Court was removed by K. Hovnanian Companies.

According to K. Hovnanian Companies, the stop sign was removed as it is not on the original plot plan.

The Board, as well as Management, will be notifying the Town Engineer for approval of the stop sign at this location as we clearly understand the safety issue this poses.

If the Association receives the approval from the Town, arrangements will be made to have the stop sign reinstalled.

Thank you.

Brian Archibald called the township engineer to discuss the reinstallation of the stop sign at the corner of Aspen and Hickory.  The town engineer said he “…would never approve a stop sign in that location as it does not follow good engineering practice and could increase the risk of an accident.”

He stated that “best practice has traffic controls placed on the least active side of intersections, that being the stop at the top of Hickory.”  He further stated that he is “against speed bumps and would not approve their installation”.

So, why can’t we add these, after all we are a private community?  We are a private community, but that does not mean we can do as we please.  Our community has an approved site plan and we must adhere to the plan unless we receive permission form either the town engineer for a di minimis change, or for a more extensive change, a visit to the planning or zoning board for approval.
